Men's Hair Milan 2013

Fresh from the future. Some hair samples from Milan shows for Spring.
The Straight blow back.
Ruffled side-quiff.
Winged side-slick.
Like so many styles I've been inclined to select for next year, the emphasis is on aerodynamic with hints of wealth. Oh young men, cut thy beards and cultivate.

GQ: Don't cut long hair, yet.

Well why not continue with men's hair and look ahead at 2013. According GQ Europe the essence of how to wear your hair is pictured above in 3 lengths. There's the slick to the side, not back. Variations of the quiff, a bit relaxed, a bit messy. Then we have long hair, something you can't magically grow except over 2 years so forget about it unless you already have shoulder length hair. Where I differ, is that the long stuff should be dead straight, or made to be. Pirate chic is done for now.

What's new?

I Suppose, nothing really. I see this and think while not new, it remains ingeniously simple and elegant. Stand out a little while saying I'm willing to pitch in and work together if I must. Slick it straight back and really risk looking like a douche--unless you are very rich. Then you won't care.

Man Bangs

Continuing with a focus on guy hair this week I think this is kind of fresh as the winter approaches. A little choppy up top and on the back and sides and maybe a bit longer with the bangs. Just avoid juvenile clothing...

I thought we'd focus on men's hair this week. A sad topic when you look around. The baseball cap reigns supreme it seems. But not completely. Today's photo hits 3 variations that I love. And it is the direction I've been going with my own hair. Almost there. This kind of cut has been popular over the last year but not enough I think.

Sometimes it's hard to tell whether the hair makes the man or the man makes the hair.

Cast a gaze back to the man who launched a billion curls. Marcel Grateau invented a number of things but was the first to use heated tongs to curl hair. An 1893 article compared the fashionable "Marcel wave" to anarchist bombs detonating across Paris at the time. I believe he went on to the first electric curling iron too. I look at this picture and think, is that a flamboyant hairdresser of the 19th century? Is that a model? How strange will we look to people a hundred years from now?

First one

Well, I think I have an idea and as usual it arrives like a bread crumb trail. I know not where it leads and I don't really care. I do know it involves hair. Liberty Head Room may be my salon one day. It might take the form of something bigger. You just never know. I'll steal a picture in the meantime and follow the trail.
